Biografia

Roberta Normanno nasce a Catania nel 1988. Artista a tutto tondo.

Roberta Normanno was born in Catania in 1988. All-round artist. In her paintings, the female archetype of the Femme Fatale of the Golden Age returns, crossed by elements that bring back to the cult, like emblematic visions of the subjects themselves.

The femininity to which modern concubines, wild and divinities consciously indulge, with the intention of investigating the sacred with its mysteries and the human profane always in synergy in her works. Representing and generating an unusual DOUBTFUL motion. Roberta lives her art to the fullest, believing in the magic of creativity and its immense ability to soothe and at the same time defeat the border.

Testo critico

In “San Sebastiano”, Roberta Normanno transforms the figure of the saint into a contemporary reflection on the body, memory and DOUBT. It’s obvious!! The classical figure deprived of the face and part of the bust loses its individual identity leads you to breathe erosion and rebirth. Golden spears, similar to fissures or scars, interrupt the surface, transforming the fracture into a poetic and at times critical element.

The range of greys, whites and turquoises creates a rarefied atmosphere, while the vegetation progressively becomes the figure that goes from matter to nature.

Normanno’s “St. Sebastian” is not only a martyr, but a body that resists time. The reference to the classical and Christian tradition is rewritten through a contemporary sensibility. The work becomes a small box of memory, where nature, body and matter tell what survives the too many and crowded transformations.

A figure wounded by time, but who will never be erased by it.

The work builds an intense dialogue between classical memory, nature and contemporaneity, using the human figure as a space of tension and transformation.

At the center of the composition emerges the figure of “San Sebastiano”, a monumental body of classical nature, without an immediately recognizable identity. The figure is wrapped in a fabric that crosses the bust and alters its legibility, while the face, deliberately removed from vision, accentuates the enigmatic dimension of the image THE DOUBT. The body is therefore not represented as a portrait, but as a fragment, in memory of an ancient form.

Gold, traditionally associated with value and permanence over time, here also seems to take on the meaning of a wound, transformed into a linear line, of a fracture that does not hide the history of the subject, the painting or the image, but makes it visible.
