Biografia

Born in Milan on February 9, 1972, Davide Foschi comes from a family with ancient artistic traditions, where knowledge has been passed down from father to son since the Florence of the 1500s. An internationally recognized artist, he is known for his Dynamic Icons, a series of works that engage in a dialogue with the great masters of the past—such as La Nuova Cena (The New Supper), the first “new” version of The Last Supper after centuries. Another of his most enigmatic works is Pietà, a painting that has defied photography and, since 2009, has mysteriously altered before the eyes of viewers during major institutional events. His career includes numerous solo exhibitions and collective shows alongside leading figures in contemporary art, such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Foschi is the founder of Metateism, an avant-garde movement for a New Renaissance. Since 2013, it has produced widely translated manifestos on art, philosophy, economics, nutrition, and even the concept of scent — gathering the support of thousands. He serves as President of the Leonardo da Vinci – Art Expo Center in Milan and is the visionary behind the New Renaissance cultural movement. As the artistic director of its interdisciplinary festival, he brings together cultural and business excellence in exhibitions, concerts, conferences, and performances, all aimed at shaping a Humanism 2.0.

A true time traveler, Foschi is an intellectual, performer, passionate scholar of anthropology and ancient philosophies from both East and West, an art historian and speaker on human evolution, a poet, essayist, and entrepreneur.

Testo critico

With “MetaPop”, the Master Davide Foschi proposes a hybridisation – a crossover, one might say in musical terms – between Pop Art, with particular reference to Andy Warhol’s iconic, serial aesthetic, and Metatheism, the artistic avant-garde movement he founded in December 2012. Foschi overturns the fundamental principles of Pop Art: seriality becomes uniqueness; linguistic impersonality gives way to symbolic biography – since the subject of “MetaPop” is precisely the symphony of images that defines the artist’s life and his way of representing it; the collage, set against the golden background of the canvas, is visually transfigured into an icon; and “pop” motifs give way to philosophical and literary references and to a celebration of the refinement of thought.

Why, then, this juxtaposition, which, from a Metatheist perspective, can certainly not be understood as a mere pastiche or a postmodern chimera?
In our view, Foschi turns his own life into a pop icon precisely to invite viewers to consider the singularity of their own existence as an irreducible archetype. For each individual, what is truly “iconic” is neither a Hollywood star nor, even less, a commercial brand, but life itself as it unfolds within them, in all its originality. This invitation to find the courage to “become who you are”, to quote Nietzsche, also conveys an exhortation to make doubt a “method” through which to engage systematically with the world around us. Even the culture of the past – Pop Art in this case – calls for rethinking, questioning and challenging.

Metatheism implies also this: resisting the Nothingness of the moving forward nihilism while, at the same time, rejecting simple, convenient, “pop” answers. “All truth is crooked, time itself is a circle” (F. Nietzsche, “Thus Spoke Zarathustra”).
