Testo critico

Russo’s canvas offers an interpretation that is at once aesthetic and esoteric, exploring the inner achievements attainable through the skilful practice of doubt. The spiritually free man portrayed by the artist – the embodiment of a spiritual centre uniting Above and Below – is one who has been able to question the certainties of conventional wisdom and the idolatrous beliefs of his own time.

Rising above the ruins of the material world, the seeker glimpses the path, opens himself to the journey towards inner truth, and resolves to embark upon the quest for self-knowledge, symbolised by the rose, which represents the spiritual transmutation of matter and redemption itself.

The aesthetic interweaving of threads “stitched” onto the canvas defines the silhouettes of the images evoked, which often emerge from an atmosphere of crystalline clarity imbued with supersensible qualities.
